Description

Woooo, always wanted to do an underwater manip, this seems to be my first! I was thinking of the harry potter and the goblet of fire scene of the black lake, and wanted to do a manip which captured that kind of atmosphere, mood, and lighting.

As for the concept, I was toying with having two mermaids, one held in vines, and one in a dilemma as to saving her or the egg. In the end, I settled for a scene with some degree of symbolism. The story goes that two kingdoms are at war. With her people on the brink of extermination, the mermaid gives up her crown in order to save her offspring, thereby ensuring their continuity for now... The crown is supposed to represent autonomy/ political power, and the egg the citizens.

Overall I'm quite pleased with how this turned out, learnt a lot about highlights and shadows in the process

*PS, my main desktop crashed, so I had to install photoshop and my wacom on my laptop for this. So the tones of the final image might be slightly off as it varies depending on which angle I flip the laptop screen to Will fix it soon.
